Gas-to-liquids – cutting oils and grinding oils for reduced wear and optimum process reliability.

Oemeta’s new cutting and grinding oils are based on the latest generation of oils. The so-called gas-to-liquid or “GTL” process is used to obtain very pure, synthetic base oils from natural gas. These are free of organic nitrogen, heavy metals, zinc and chlorine compounds. The process reliability of Oemeta’s GTL oils has been demonstrated based on various approvals issued by well-known customers in the automotive and supplier industry as well as machine manufacturers.

OEMETOL products for good occupational safety and low consumption.

Oemeta OEMETOL products have a very high flash point and a very low tendency to evaporate. This ensures good occupational safety and lower consumption. The higher lubrication performance and improved foaming properties of GTL oils compared to conventional mineral or hydrocracked oils reduce wear and improve process reliability.

The GTL process for pure, synthetic base oils.

The GTL process involves mixing natural gas and oxygen to form syngas. This is combined by means of a Fischer-Tropsch synthesis to form long-chained paraffin waxes. In the next step – the hydrocracking process – the long-chained paraffin waxes are converted into liquid hydrocarbons (saturated short-chained paraffins) by means of cracking, isomerisation and subsequent fractionation.

Advantages of GTL oils at a glance

  • Neutral odour
  • Very low evaporation loss
  • Low-foaming, outstanding air separation characteristics
  • Improved filterability and greater economic efficiency due to low density
  • Not cytotoxic (EN ISO 10993-5:2009)
  • Outstanding lubricating performance due to selected EP and AW additives

GTL oils compared to conventional hydrocracked oils:

Faster air separation
by up to +45 %

Result: higher cooling effect

Very high flash point,
up to +17 %

Result: good occupational health and safety

Lower evaporation*
by up to -60 %

Result: lower consumption, less odour, less misting
*Noack-Test

Less wear*
by up to -20 %

Result: longer tool life
*Reichert-Test

Cytotoxicity

Our GTL oils are not cytotoxic according to EN ISO 10993-5:2009. An essential prerequisite for the use of implants in the medical sector is good biocompatibility. For this reason, both bio-compatible materials and processing fluids are ideally used.

In order to assess biocompatibility, the in vitro cytotoxicity test is carried out according to ISO 10993-5. Here, the influence of the processing fluid on the viability of body cells is determined. Up to a cell viability of more than 70%, the processing fluid is classified as non-cytotoxic.

During the procedure, a 25 cm² stainless steel plate is first immersed in the processing fluid. The liquid then drips off for one hour and the platelet is placed in a defined cell solution for 48 hours after sterilisation. The viability of the body’s cells is finally established by means of microscopic counting and analysis of metabolic activity.

In order to optimise quality in the manufacture of products for medical use, we recommend the use of non-cytotoxic cooling lubricants, tested according to ISO 10993-5.
